• Proposed strike action by National Education Union (NEU) members Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023

  Dear Parents / Carers,

   

  I am writing to you to further update you on the impact of the on-going dispute between the teaching unions and the government in England. Members of the National Education Union (NEU) and other teaching unions have voted to reject the offer made by the government with respect to pay and how this offer is to be funded from existing school budgets. Without adequate funding there is likely to be a detrimental impact on the services that schools can provide for the children in their care.

   

  The rejection of the current government offer means that the NEU has instructed its members to take industrial action on the following dates:

   

  Thursday 27^th April & Tuesday 2^nd May.

   

  This industrial action does not affect all teaching staff, only those that are members of the NEU, although other teaching unions are looking to re-ballot their members as a result of the continuation of the dispute. Some members of the Whiteparish teaching staff, although not all, are members of the NEU union. At the time of writing, those who are members of the NEU continue to indicate that they will not be engaging with strike action on this occasion. This is currently based on a commitment to your children in the lead up to various statutory assessments. This position may well change moving forward. As their head teacher, I will offer them unequivocal support in whichever course of action they decide to take.

   

  This means that currently there will be no disruption to the education of pupils at Whiteparish on the days scheduled for industrial action and the school will be open as usual. All children will be expected to be in attendance. If this situation changes, I will of course communicate the change of circumstances with you immediately and I look forward to your continued support of the school and its staff.
