Distinctive Christian Ethos

Our values shine through in all that we do

Whiteparish's school values of Perseverence, Kindness and Hope, shine through in all that we do and are interwoven across our curriculum. We promote our children's understanding of Christianity beyond our coverage within the RE curriculum and build links with All Saints Parish church across the whole school.

Year 6 pupils' Retreat, Reflection and Transition day

As part of the work we do with our Year 6 pupils, to support transition to secondary school, the children enjoy a 'retreat day' at the church, allowing them to spiritually reflect on their time at Whiteparish and to look ahead to the new challenges they may face. This opportunity allows them to reflect as a group, share collective memories and to talk about how they feel about the future.

The day is all about 'stepping out of the boat', based on the Bible story of Jesus encouraging Peter to step out of his  comfort zone and have faith in himself and that with Jesus' support he could do it.

Picture News

At Whiteparish, we use Picture News as a stimulus to expose children and adults to current affairs, support them in discovering new interests and bring the wider world closer to their everyday lives. This supports the  'Windows, Mirrors, Doors' approach, which encourages pupils to look outwards, look inwards and respond.

Discussing the articles raised in Picture News is a fundamental part of supporting our children in realising they have a voice and can make a difference to the world.

Here's what our children say about Picture news-

"I love discussing the pictures with my class, sometimes I have a different idea to my friends, but that is ok, we are always kind."

Year 2 pupil.

Here's what our staff say about Picture news-

"The picture news discussions are invaluable. Children know their perspectives and opinions are valued and it provides a safe place to talk about and question the world around them. I'm sure we have some budding debaters and leaders in the making!"

Year 3/4 teacher.
